portland cider partners with maletis beverage to raise money for school lunch programs

We asked Portland-area neighbors to recycle their fallen and unwanted backyard fruit this summer, and the community responded in a big way. As a result of the generosity, Portland Cider has been able to make a record amount of this year’s Fruit Forward Community Cider. More cider means more opportunities to raise funds for Hunger Free Oregon, including Portland Cider purchases at your local grocery store.

Portland Cider Company’s annual community cider is called "‘Fruit Forward’ this year, in celebration of the backyard apples & fruits in the cider that are ‘paying it forward’ to Hunger Free Oregon. Releasing on-tap at the Portland Cider pubs on Saturday, October 19, the community cider will be available for the first time outside of our own pubs.

In partnership with our local distributor, Maletis Beverage, we are working with growler stations, restaurants & retailers to put ‘Fruit Forward’ on-tap during the months of October & November. For every keg sold, we will donate $100.

At both Portland Cider pubs, we will be donating $5 from every pint sold of the ‘Fruit Forward’ community cider while the cider lasts! Due to the incredible response from the apple & fruit drive this summer, we anticipate this year’s fundraiser to raise $10,000 or more - more than 2x the funds raised in 2018.

All funds raised as part of this program will be donated to Hunger Free Oregon, specifically to their School Lunch Programs which include breakfasts, lunches & after school snacks.

According to a new USDA report on Food Insecurity in the U.S. nearly one in seven households (14.6 percent) in Oregon were “food insecure” between 2014-16. This affects 620,000 Oregonians, and over 316,000 kids, where 1 in 4 children from low-income food insecure homes are at risk of hunger and are eligible for nutrition programs.

In addition to the ‘Fruit Forward’ Community Cider, you can help fight hunger in Oregon schools with a trip to your local grocery store during the month of October. Portland Cider Company and Maletis Beverage are teaming up to help fight hunger in the Northwest with a program to support school lunch programs in Oregon and SW Washington during the month of October. The campaign will support Partners for a Hunger Free Oregon with a $2 donation for every case of 6-pack cans from Portland Cider Co. purchased at participating supermarkets.
