The statistics are jarring: 1 in 8 children in Oregon face food insecurity. And so much food is wasted! According to Feeding America, a staggering 119 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States each year. That’s the equivalent of you and everyone else in the country throwing away 925 apples each year. Shockingly, nearly 40% of all food in America ends up in the landfill.

Portland Cider Helps Feed Oregon Zoo Animals In New Partnership

As part of their community commitment to pay it (fruit) forward, Portland Cider Company is partnering with the Oregon Zoo Foundation to help feed their hungry residents. Throughout May and June, a portion of the proceeds from every six-pack of Portland Cider sold in Oregon and Southwest Washington will be donated to the foundation and used to produce the 292,000 pounds of food that over 1,500 animals at the Oregon Zoo devour annually.
